I have always been facinated by Bison. These guys are big and strong. Yellowstone and the Tetons are a great place to see these massive creatures.
The good thing about Bison - they are not hard to spot. Finding some kind of unique setting is difficult though.
As we were driving I spotted a couple of bison with the moon as the background. I jumped out of the car. Grabbed my camera (which was on my lap). Which is always a good idea - you will always miss the shot that you are not prepared to take. I know - brilliant photography philosophy. But it is true.
For Bison it is not a huge deal - they just don't move all that fast - but some critters are gone before you get your camera out of your bag and onto a tripod. Plus if you open your door some critters are gone as well. When I am out looking for photographs - whether it is Sandhill Cranes or Bison or Wolves - I have my camera in my lap ready to go.
